Pork is the most common type of meat. The local pig industry developed rapidly after the WWII to cope with the expanding population in Hong Kong. Although the scale of pig husbandry is not comparable to that of the mainland nowadays, it was once brilliant in the 1970s and 1980s. Since then, due to many environmental measures and the increase in operating costs, the number of pig farmers has dropped sharply. At present, there are about 40 pig farmers in Hong Kong. Hung To Animal Husbandry Limited is one of them.
